On Monday morning, October 3, a firefighter was killed in a motorcycle crash.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before 8 a.m. on Haywood Road near Halton Road. Adam Cory Shaver, aged 28 and from the Lake Cunningham Fire Department, was driving south on Haywood Road. A truck being driven by a 26 year old male from Williamston, pulled out onto Haywood Road and hit the motorcycle.
Shaver who was described by the fire department as a dedicated firefighter, died from multiple trauma according to the Greenville Coroner, Parks Evans. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Troopers continue to investigate the crash and the road was closed during the initial investigation. The truck driver, who was uninjured, has so far been cited for failure to yield but at this time it is not known if there will be further charges.
