On Monday evening a pickup truck overturned in Pickens County resulting in the death of one of the passengers.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol the accident happened just after 5 p.m. on Crestview Road, near Easley when a 2004 Ford pickup truck was going eastbound with four people on board. The truck then ran off the road, hit a culvert and overturned.
One of the passengers, 17 year old Cory Edward Mathis of Belton, was partially ejected even though he was wearing a seatbelt, and he died at the scene. Mathis was a sophomore student at Palmetto High School and counselors were provided to help fellow students cope with his death.
The 20 year old driver and two passengers who were both 18, were taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries,
Crestview Road was closed for several hours to enable the troopers to carry out an investigation into the accident.
